About Us
Benjamin R. Cohen, M.D., F.A.C.S.,
is a board certified neurosurgeon specializing in spinal surgery. His practice includes revision spine surgery, adult scoliosis, and the treatment of spinal infection and tumors.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Cohen received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Temple University. He received his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School, where he was honored as the McGraw Hill Book Company Outstanding Student; Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AOA), junior selection; John J. Sheinin Research Award, and Board of Trustees Scholarship Award.
At the Albany Medical Center Dr. Cohen completed his general surgery internship and served as a neurological surgery resident. While there he received the House Staff Scholarly Research Award. Dr. Cohen subsequently completed his fellowship in complex spinal surgery at the University of Alabama.
Dr. Cohen has authored and co-authored numerous manuscripts and articles published in the fields of neurosurgery and the spine. He has given many presentations in these areas as well. Dr. Cohen is a fellow the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.). His professional memberships include: American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), Section of Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves, Nassau County Medical Society (NCMS), American Medical Association (AMA) and the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY).
Fully versed in standard laminectomy and fusion techniques, Dr. Cohen has a special interest in minimally invasive procedures including kyphoplasty, X-STOP™ and microdiscectomy as well as surgery for spinal tumors.
